We’ve all been there – the day you get up, the day you walk from your house to the car, and the day you are getting ready for work, and you think to yourself, “Man I should have been getting ready for work earlier.
Sometimes you should think about that, sometimes you should be getting ready for work earlier, and sometimes you should be getting ready to work now.
This is why I think you should always get ready for work later. A lot of times, you don’t even think about what’s ahead, you just get up and get ready for work. That’s why I love the idea of the “get ready to work later” motto. It forces more focus toward what’s really important: the task in front of you, not the excuses you have to make for it.
I think it helps a lot to have a personal motto that you’re constantly reminding yourself of. The idea of get ready for work later is a great example, because it’s often not the task itself that’s the problem, but the excuses we make up while procrastinating. When we’re in a hurry, we put on our favorite music (and then ignore it) and start banging away at the task in front of us.
If you have a personal motto, it can become a source of stress and a cause for procrastination. The problem is that a personal motto can be a barrier to entry. When you have a personal motto, you have to be open to change and new ideas. It is much easier to change your personal motto than it is to implement something that is not your personal motto to. It also makes it much harder to maintain consistency when you have a personal motto.
Sure, you can change your personal motto to something workable and then implement a personal motto that works, or you can use a personal motto that is not workable and try to implement something that is workable. The point is that if you find it hard to implement something that isn’t your personal motto, it is much easier to change your personal motto.
So let’s use marshall strabala as an example. I have always wanted to be a marshall. But I also feel like I’m a marshall, every single day, and I have a personal motto that says I’m a marshall, but I’m never going to be a marshall. So I have to go through the process of changing my personal motto to something that actually works for me.
This is one of the reasons why I think that the best way to start working on your personal motto is to think about something like “make me a marshall”. If you think of something that you are already really good at (like a sport, or being a manager, or being nice to people), then you don’t have to change anything. Just say, “I can already do this, so I can do it better.
I want to be a marshall. I can really create a team and get the things that I need, or I can make a team for a reason. But when I think of my motto, or when my motto is something else I am thinking of, or the phrase “I’m good at everything,” it’s not really something I am good at.
This is a great question! We have a great team! We can all be good in a team! We can just be good in our own way! We have that.
