When I first met Dr. Horton in 2011, we had a long conversation about the difference between self-awareness and self-worth. And I’ll tell you that these are the same things that we talked about. Dr. Horton and I both believe that there are 3 levels of self-awareness.
The first level is being aware of your emotions. The second level is being aware of your thoughts. The third level is being aware of your actions. This third level is the most important, because it allows us to determine what we are doing and why.
Self-awareness is the ability to control our emotions, thoughts, and actions so that we can truly be aware of what we are doing. Self-awareness is also what allows us to make the proper choices that will make us happier in the long run, and to be able to make the best decisions that will create the life we want. As we have seen in this interview, self-awareness doesn’t happen in a flash.

We have seen other examples of this in our interview with dr horton loring. It is also what allows us to have a healthy relationship with our friends and family, and to be able to give our time and energy to them instead of to our computers and electronic gadgets.
It’s that ability to control our emotions, thoughts, and actions which allows the self-aware to overcome the unconscious, and to do what is right in the moment. This means that the self-aware will be able to overcome the unconscious when that unconscious thought, feeling, or action might be harmful to us. It’s also a fundamental attribute of being human, and something that dr horton loring seems to have learned from his own life experiences.
While some people do seem to be able to overcome the unconscious, others seem to be stuck in the unconscious. Like when the self-aware is still in the unconscious. This could be because the self-aware is still able to control the unconscious, but maybe that unconscious control has some kind of a “fallback” mechanism that can stop the self-aware. Perhaps only the self-aware has the capacity to fully control the unconscious, so it is unable to stop it.
In theory, that unconscious control could be the result of the self-aware being in the unconscious, but this seems to have never been proven. But, there is one instance where the self-aware and the unconscious seem to be able to work together. In the case of a person that is able to get high off of LSD, but only in a state where the self-aware is still awake.
You may remember the case of the woman that was able to be so high off LSD that she was able to convince the self-aware that she was no longer aware of herself. She was able to convince that she was the one that was awake, and now she was the one that was being controlled. The problem was that the self-aware was not able to convince the unconscious that it was the same person that was awake.
